SOUTH WOODSTOCK
The KVI is located at the center of South Woodstock, an historic Vermont village dating from the 18th century. Take a self-guided walking tour of our village and see a variety of landmarked buildings built in classic Federalist style. Stop by the Country Store, which has been selling a variety of dry goods to locals and visitors for over 100 years.
WOODSTOCK
Five miles north of the KVI, Woodstock Village is one of America's most beautiful small towns. With a variety of specialty clothing stores, antique shops and art galleries, Woodstock is a great to place browse for local gifts. Several dining options are also available in Woodstock.
BREWERY TOURS
Vermont's local beers are known far and wide. Two of the most well known, The Long Trail Brewery and The Harpoon Brewery, are located within 20 miles of the Inn. Visit for lunch, a tour and a tasting.
BILLINGS FARM
Just outside Woodstock village, offers the whole family a first-hand look at a working Vermont farm. Various exhibits, programs and special events will entertain and educate. Hayrides are offered in summer and sleigh rides in winter. Call the Inn for info.
KID STUFF
Adventures for the entire family are plentiful. Ben & Jerry's Factory is located 1.5 hours away by car and offers guided tours and tastes of new flavors not yet available to the public. The Montshire Museum of Science is a hands-on science museum with a network of walking trails. The Vermont Institute of Natural Science is an educational center devoted to birds of prey such as bald eagles, peregrine falcons and snowy owls.
TOUR HISTORIC ESTATES
Many local estates have been turned into museums and attractions including, the Calvin Coolidge Homestead, the most authentically restored Presidential birthplace in the country; Saint Gaudens, home of one of America's pre-eminent sculptors, containing over 100 samples of the artist's work, and surrounded by lush landscaping and sweeping vistas. The Rockefeller Family Mansion, circa 1805, is filled with Victorian furnishings, custom Tiffany windows and a large collection of fine art with environmental themes.
SIGHTSEEING, OTHER TOWNS
A number of other scenic and exciting towns are located within an easy drive of the Inn. Hanover, NH, the home of Dartmouth College, is 30 minutes away; beautiful Weston, VT, with is historic village green and famous playhouse is 40 minutes away; Manchester, VT's outlet stores and fine restaurants are just over an hour away. The staff at the Inn can help you plan a day touring Vermont's Green Mountains.
FITNESS, YOGA & SPA SERVICES
KVI guests may use the excellent Woodstock Health & Fitness Center just up the road from the Inn for a small daily fee. This facility offers a wide variety of fitness programs, equipment and an indoor pool. Spa services are available in town.
Downhill Skiing
Central Vermont is a skiing and winter sports enthusiast's dream, with downhill and cross-country skiing at the top of the list. Four major ski areas are an easy drive from the inn - Killington (35 minutes) is the East's largest ski area, Suicide Six (15 minutes) is a moderate-sized area famous for its family friendly attitude, Okemo (35 minutes) is diverse and challenging and Pico (35 minutes) is very popular with locals. Each of these mountains offers a wide selection of trails and rental equipment for skiers of all abilities.
Cross-Country Skiing
X-Country skiing is very popular in the region. The Woodstock Cross-Country Ski Center offers 50K of groomed trails and is only 5 minutes away. Rental packages are available.
snowmobiling & snowshoeing
Local snowmobiling and snowshoeing companies are available to lead tours of the Woodstock area. The well known VAST snowmobile trail system runs across a portion on the Kedron Valley Inn's property, making the KVI a perfect jumping off point for exploring the area. Snowshoeing and rental equipment are also offered at the Woodstock X-Country Ski Center.
ICE SKATING & HOCKEY
Outdoor skating on the KVI pond is a highlight of any visit, weather permitting. Indoor skating and casual hockey is offered at Woodstock's indoor town rink, Union Arena. Call the KVI for schedules and info.
GREEN MOUNTAIN HORSE ASSOCIATION
The GMHA show grounds are located in South Woodstock, 1/2 mile down the road from the KVI. The GMHA presents a wide variety of horse shows and special equestrian events throughout the spring, summer and fall. The KVI has long been a home base for competitors and spectators attending these many events. Contact the GMHA or the Inn for information about upcoming events.
Golf
The Woodstock area is one of northern New England's premier golf destinations. A number of terrific courses are available to Kedron Valley Inn guests. Guests have playing privileges at Woodstock Country Club's 18-hole Robert Trent Jones course, located just minutes away from the Inn. It's scenic and compact, but be warned that it crosses water eleven times. We have made arrangements for KVI guests to play the well-known and private Quechee Country Club, which offers 27 outstanding holes and has hosted the New England Amateur in recent years. Other top courses in the area include the Killington Golf Course and Green Mountain National Golf Course. Please contact the Inn for further info and to make tee times.
Tennis
Woodstock Health & Fitness Center has 10 outdoor clay and hard courts available to the public. Pros can provide lessons plus tips on their complete line of equipment for sale. If you forget your racquets, they'll rent you one for a small fee.
Hiking
There are five stunning hiking sites are within 20 minutes of the Inn. One descends to the floor of a mini-Grand Canyon and one offers a panoramic overview of Woodstock village and surrounding farmland. All offer peaceful relaxation and escape from city crowds and noise. Details are available in our info center. Shorter strolls (a couple of miles in length) along country roads are an option from our front door.
Swimming
Our spring-fed, chemical-free private pond is the place to be in warm weather. Two acres in size, with a sandy beach at the shallow end, the pond features comfortable loungers and a sunning float in the middle.
Biking
The lovely scenery and winding roads are quite appealing to bikers. Routes for both road bikes and hybrid bikes abound. Mountain bikers can ride either their bikes or the chairlift up Killington Mountain and ride their bikes down. Bike rentals can be arranged by the Inn.
FISHING & CANOEING
Lessons and equipment as well as off-site fishing and canoeing expeditions can be arranged through a local outfitter. Call the Inn for further info.
Public Gardens
Gardeners can explore three public plantings: Carrie Brown's cherished perennial garden at the Calvin Coolidge Homestead in Plymouth; Billings Farm's Victorian flower and vegetable gardens; and the carefully landscaped grounds at the Rockefeller Estate where nearly a century of history under the influence of forest conservation is presented.
Fall Foliage
Late September and most of October are typically when Vermont's world famous foliage season reaches peak, though timing can vary by a week or two each year. Central Vermont has some of the finest foliage and scenic drives anywhere. Maps and self-guided tours are available through the Inn. Remember to book early as this is among the Inn's busiest times.
